  • Circulation
  • Respiration
  • Digestion
  • Nutrition
  • Immunity
  • Senses

COURSE OVERVIEW

Help your child discover the incredible inner workings of their own body. Through interactive lessons, hands-on activities, and engaging projects, your child will explore the various systems of the human body, including the circulatory, digestive, and respiratory systems.

By the end of this course’s 16 lessons, your child will have learned the basic structure and function of the human body systems and how they work together to maintain the body’s health.

LESSON 1: THE HUMAN BODY

Give your child a deeper understanding of the human body with this lesson on the body’s major systems and organs. Your child will learn about the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems and how they work together to support life and maintain health.

LESSON 2: CELLS

Explore the basic building blocks of living things with your child in this lesson on cells. Your child will learn that their body is made of different kinds of cells and that cells contain mitochondria that provide them with energy.

LESSON 3: SKELETAL SYSTEM

Introduce your child to the human skeleton in this lesson on bones. Your child will learn about the structure and function of bones and how they work together to support movement and protect the body. They will also discover how bones, muscles, tendons, and ligaments work together to allow movement in the body.

LESSON 4: SKIN

Teach your child about one of the largest organs in their body—their skin! Your child will learn how skin helps protect the body from germs and regulates body temperature.

LESSON 5: CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

Explore the circulatory system with your child as they learn how the heart pumps, moving blood through vessels and carrying oxygen and nutrients to the body’s cells. Your child will also learn how heart valves open and close as the heart beats to keep blood moving in the right direction.

LESSON 6: KIDNEYS

In this lesson, your child will learn that their kidneys remove waste from their blood and why this is important to their health. Your child will also learn about the role of the bladder in storing urine until it can be expelled from the body through the urethra.

LESSON 7: RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

Introduce your child to the respiratory system as they learn how lungs, airways, and other components work together to bring oxygen into the body and remove carbon dioxide.

LESSON 8: DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

In this exploration of the digestive system, your child will learn how what they eat moves through the mouth, esophagus, stomach, and intestines, and how these parts work together to break food down and absorb nutrients.

LESSON 9: NERVOUS SYSTEM

Help your child understand how the brain and nerves work together to coordinate and control the body’s functions. Your child will also learn how their senses gather information and send messages through the nerves to the brain.

LESSON 10: BRAIN and NEURONS

In this lesson your child will learn that neurons are the cells that carry messages in their bodies and brains. Your child will also learn that the neurons in the brain provide many different pathways for messages to travel on.

LESSON 11: EYES

Teach your child about the parts of the eye and how they work together to make vision possible. Your child will also learn that there are two different kinds of cells in the retina, rods and cones, that enable your eyes to see when there is lots of light or very little.

LESSON 12: NUTRITION

This lesson will help you teach your child about the concept of nutrition and that a balanced diet is important for the body to function properly. Your child will also learn that nutrients are substances that the body uses to operate and make new cells.

LESSON 13: TEMPERATURE REGULATION

In this lesson, your child will learn how the body maintains a constant internal temperature, despite changing outside temperatures. Your child will also learn that sweating is a way for the body to cool off, if it’s getting too hot.

LESSON 14: FIGHT OR FLIGHT RESPONSE

Introduce your child to how the body responds to stress and danger with this lesson. Your child will learn about the role of the nervous system in activating the fight-or-flight response and how it helps the body prepare for danger.

LESSON 15: IMMUNE SYSTEM

Your child will discover the amazing defense system of the human body in this lesson on the immune system. Your child will also learn how white blood cells and antibodies work together to protect the body from illness and disease.
